NOTE
Tenebrae is a traditional worship service among western Christians, observed on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, or Holy Saturday. The service inverts the Advent tradition of lighting a candle in the four weeks prior to Christmas. Here the candles are gradually extinguished until only that which represents the light of Christ remains. At the end of the service, the Christ candle is removed from the worship space for a brief time, but is never extinguished. This signifies the eternal light that Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, brings to the world, and his ultimate triumph over darkness, sin, and death.
